Summary

At about 1840 on September 17, Atom Jorgenson (11 y/o WMJ, DOB 2/6/08) had an argument with his guardian grandmother in the parking lot of the shopping center at 2983 Jamacha Road in Spring Valley. He exited his grandmother’s vehicle and began walking away in a generally NE direction. Grandmother called for LE assistance and deputies conducted an initial search. ASTREA flew the area, making announcements. At about 2140, Sgt. George issued a callout for SAR. 26 SAR personnel and two trailing canines responded.

During the initial briefing, we learned that the subject lived several miles away and had no friends or much familiarity with the area where he was last seen. An interview team was deployed and a scent article deployed. Teams were deployed to search the shopping complex area and a popular trail on its south border. A trailing canine established an initial trail but soon stopped.

At about 2340, the subject called his grandmother and said that he was at a gas station located at 489 W. Main in El Cajon. This is about 5 miles to the north of the PLS. A deputy was dispatched to confirm and retrieve the subject, who was in good condition. He was returned to his grandparents. The CP was closed out at about 0100 and MC5 returned to Pt. 43.
